Saco Drive-In wins digital projection system in national contest

The national contest is sponsored by Honda to bring attention to the costly upgrades facing small theaters across the country.Many theaters face possible closures as the movie industry switches from film to digital, requiring theaters to invest around $80,000 in new digital project systems, according to Honda. Honda will donate digital projectors to the five theaters that earned the most votes from supporters over the past month.A winner will be announced each day for the next four days, said Honda spokesman Jessica Fini. A sixth theater will receive a projector funded by donations collected through the campaig迷你倉.The Saco Drive-In will celebrate its win with a party and free movie at 6 p.m. Wednesday.In an online video announcing the win, Russell said the new projector will allow the Saco Drive-In to open next year for its 75th season."I can't tell you how much this means to all of us in the Saco Drive-In family," Russell said. "I knew with this community we could put this together."This year marks the 74th season for the Saco Drive-In, which was originally called the Motor-In Theatre when it was opened in 1939 by Italian immigrant Eugene V. Boragine. It is the second-oldest drive-in theater in the country.The Prides Corner Drive-In in Westbrook was also involved in the contest.
