Source: American News, Aberdeen, S.mini storageD.Oct. 29--There will be no shortage of numbers for the Presentation College men's basketball team. The Saints have 37 players on their basketball team this season. PC has both a varsity and a junior varsity. There are 17 players on the varsity roster and 12 players on the junior varsity team. There are an additional eight players that will redshirt this season."Overall it has been the most competitive I have been around because guys are working extremely hard," Presentation College coach Jeremy Reigle said about high number of players. "They know nothing is promised to them, even though we have eight returning seniors. Nothing is promised to those guys either. It has created a competitive environment. I think it is going to help our team a lot."The PC coaching staff has had plenty of time to evaluate the players. The Saints began practice on Oct. 1 and did a lot of preseason conditioning prior to the first practice of the season."We were up at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, either on the football field or on the track or in the gym doing some kind of conditioning," Reigle said. "Stuff I think that was beneficial and it set a good tone for us."Senior Anthony Hendricks is the top returning scorer at 10.2 points per game. Senior guards Chaz Haymond (9.8 ppg) and Quincy Davis (9.5 ppg) also return after solid junior campaigns. The other seniors are Damian Salais, Terry Strong, Chevy Fischer, Vladimir Charlitte and Matt Bernard."I'm proud of all of our seniors," Reigle said. "They all worked hard. They obviously were focused and ready to come back this year."Fischer is a 6-foot-5 forward that transferred in from Mount Marty College. The 6-foot-6 Bernard played in only two games last season, but should see his role increase."He had to get into better shape and I have been impressed with his preseason stuff in the early parts of practice," Reigle said. "I have been impressed with him. Hopefully he can continue to contribute."Gregory Garrett, a 6-foot-5 transfer from Lincoln (Ill.) College, projects to see some playing time this season, said Reigle."He is going to be a tough matchup for a lot of teams I think," Reigle said. "He gets to the rim. He can shoot the ball. He is long and athletic."Nick Gillett, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College, is also expected to see time in the post, said Reigle.Presentation College will open the season this Friday and Saturday against Crossroads (Minn.) College at the Strode Center.
