Victim's father testifies at trial
Source: The Times Leader, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.迷你倉最平Oct. 02--WILKES-BARRE -- The last time John Reznick saw his son alive was Aug. 3, 2012.Aaron Reznick, 29, had arrived home from his job as a senior chemist at Sanofi Pasteur in Swiftwater, took a shower, dressed in jeans and a red T-shirt and left home in his 2012 Kia.The next time John Reznick would see his son, he testified Tuesday in the first day of a trial being held for his accused killer, Breon Judon, is at Lehigh Valley Hospital two days later where he had to identify his son -- who was "hanging onto life by a thread."Nine days later, the Reznick family, of Hazleton, learned their loved one was brain dead and had to make a determination."There was nothing they could do for him," John Reznick, a retired elementary school teacher, testified. "We had to decide ... to remove life support."Prosecutors say Aaron Reznick died on Aug. 13, 2012, because of injuries he sustained at the hands of Judon, 20, and Mitchell Dedes, 18, both of Hazleton.A jury was selected to hear Judon's case Monday, and attorneys presented their opening arguments Tuesday. Prosecutors then began calling witnesses, including John Reznick.Testimony will continue today, Judge Richard Hughes said.During testimony Tuesday, John Reznick identified the T-shirt and jeans his son was wearing after police found them in and near his car, left abandoned on Sherman Court in Hazleton.Police were able to identify the car as belonging to Aaron Reznick through his registration and a Sanofi Pasteur identification card.Reznick was found laying in the roadway on Carson Street on Aug. 4, 2012, and taken to the Hazleton General Hospital where an emergency room doctor said Reznick was still alive. He was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown due to the extent of his injuries.Police did not know Reznick's identify because he was found wearing only socks and boxer shorts. He had been listed as "John Doe" at b儲存th hospitals.Assistant District Attorney Mamie Phillips, who is prosecuting the case with Dan Zola, said in her opening statement Judon and Dedes were in it together from the beginning. They conspired to rob, brutally assault and kill Reznick on Aug. 3, 2012."It was one for all and all for one," Phillips said.Judon and Dedes allegedly met with Reznick with the intent of selling him crack cocaine. In a statement to police, Judon said Dedes became upset after Reznick told him he did not have any money and offered to use his iPhone as collateral. Dedes pulled a gun and demanded Reznick give him the phone, then ordered him to strip and get into the truck of his car, according to court documents. But, Dedes said in a statement to police that Judon pulled the gun and became angry after realizing the phone was broken. He then ordered Reznick into the trunk.Prosecutors said they'll be calling a police informant to testify about wearing a wire and obtaining a statement from Judon, as well as a woman who told police the two men told her they "did something bad" and another man who introduced Reznick to Judon for the purpose of buying drugs.Judon's attorney, Allyson Kacmarski, said in her opening statement that the case isn't as cut and dry as prosecutors would have they jury believe. If Judon and Dedes were "in it together," wouldn't Dedes be at this weeks trial? Kacmarski asked. In fact, the defense attorney said, her client has told police and the informant from the beginning that Dedes was responsible for the crimes.Prosecutors do not have enough evidence to convict her client, Kacmarski said, adding no eye-witnesses would be called to testify.Dedes has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping and is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 9Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Times Leader (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.)
