Maine attorney general to file civil charges against teen involved in crash that caused teacher's death

Source: Bangor Daily News, MaineJuly 19--BERWICK, Maine -- A Biddeford teen driver who allegedly drifted across the centerline and collided with an oncoming vehicle, causing the April crash that killed a Berwick teacher, was not distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the incident occurred, the Maine attorney general's office announced Friday.新蒲崗迷你倉Despite those findings, the attorney general's office will file two civil charges against Cameron Clair, 17, for his role in the crash. The charges result from investigation findings released Friday by Attorney General Janet Mills' office.The investigation indicates that, on April 10, 2013, Clair was traveling southbound on Route 4 toward Berwick Academy when his vehicle "drifted into the northbound lane and struck" a vehicle heading the opposite direction.The driver of the northbound vehicle was Amy Harris, 34, who wamini storage traveling with her two children in the car. Harris, a special education teacher at nearby Vivian E. Hussey School in Berwick, died as a result of the crash."There was no evidence that Mr. Clair was under the influence of any substances or was distracted at the time of the crash," the attorney general's office announcement stated, in part.The attorney general's office will instead charge Clair with the traffic infraction of failure to keep right, as well as the civil violation of "motor vehicle violation resulting in death."
