Millcreek man to await child porn trial in jail

Source: Erie Times-News, Pa.儲存倉July 20--A Millcreek Township man will await trial on federal child pornography charges in prison.U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Paradise Baxter ordered that Todd C. Lapping, 39, be detained pending trial following a hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Erie.Baxter, siding with the prosecution, ruled that home detention with electronic monitoring would not be appropriate due to the nature of the charges against Lapping -- production and possession of child pornography -- and because of some of the evidence against Lapping.Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Trabold argued that based on that evidence Lapping, of the 4000 block of West Ridge Road, poses a danger to the community.Lapping's lawyer, Thomas Patton, an assistant federal public defender, countered that Lapping could be safely detained in a home with relatives.Lapping was indicted on July 9.Trabold told Baxter that according to investigators, Lapping befriended an area family and allowed their children to visit his home and use his computer. One of the children was using the computer on May 29 and discovered pornographic images of one of the other children, Trabold said. The girl showed them to her mother, who took photos of the images with her c迷你倉沙田ll phone and called Millcreek Township police, Trabold said.Trabold said that by the time police arrived at Lapping's home on May 31 to serve a search warrant, Lapping's computer hard drive had been wiped clean. Research showed it had been cleared about nine hours before police arrived, Trabold said.Investigators, however, used forensic software and located images, including sexually explicit images of adults. That cache of 95,000 images is still being analyzed to see if the images contain any child pornography, Trabold said.Investigators also found several sexually explicit photos of the child, a boy, on Lapping's cell phone, Trabold said.Trabold said Lapping admitted having sexual contact with the boy while the boy was asleep.Trabold said the boy's mother told police that she had received reports from two other boys that Lapping had given them a sleeping pill when they stayed over at his home.Lapping denied that he gave the boy in the photos sleeping pills, Trabold said.LISA THOMPSON can be reached at 870-1802 or by e-mail.
