7 county bridges closing

Source: American News, Aberdeen, S.迷你倉出租D.July 19--Seven little-used bridges in Brown County are being closed so the county doesn't have to pay for inspection costs.County commissioners approved the closures this week at the request of Jan Weismantel, county highway superintendent. Earlier in the year, she had suggested closing 10 bridges. Two of the 10 bridges have already been closed because of concerns about sturdiness. One is south of Northern Beef Packers, the other south of State Highway 10 near Willow Dam.The third, Bridge 245 a mile south of State Highway 10 and a mile west of County Road 20 in the Claremont area, will be left open. Weismantel said she got a lot of feedback from people who live near the bridge about its importance and how much it's used.The other seven bridges are in the process of being closed.Bridge inspections have to be done every two years and can cost about $700 each, Weismantel previously said.The bridges being closed are all older, and most are on township roads. They are:--Bridge 8: North of County Road 23 near the Edmunds County line in Highland Township. Built in 1910, 77 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $738,000.--Bridge 73: About 1.5 miles east of County Road 18 and about 1 mile north of the Spink County line in Garden Prairie Township. Built in 1925, 26 feet long, no estimated replacement cost.--Bridge 104: North of County Road 21 and east of state Highway 37 in East Hanson Township. Built in 1925, 47 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $388儲存倉000.--Bridge 123: A mile south of County Road 21 and about 2 miles west of state Highway 37 in West Hanson Township. Built in 1910, 42 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $325,000.--Bridge 132: South of U.S. Highway 12 and about 2 miles east of state Highway 37 in Groton Township. Built in 1929, 33 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $343,000.--Bridge 259: A mile and a half west of state Highway 37 and 3 miles south of County Road 23 in Garden Prairie Township. Built in 1930, 25 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $229,000.--Bridge 327: About 1 mile south of state Highway 37 and 2 miles west of County Road 20 in North Detroit Township. Unknown year of construction, last inspection in 1998, 29 feet, estimated replacement cost of $89,000.--Bridge 32 (previously closed): A mile south of Northern Beef Packers and east of County Road 10 on the Warner/Aberdeen township line. Built in 1930, 34 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $367,000.--Bridge 180 (previously closed): Near Willow Dam about a mile south of state Highway 10 in Franklyn Township. Built in 1900, 61 feet long, estimated replacement cost of $484,000.--Bridge 245 (previously closed): A mile south of state Highway 10 and a mile west of County Road 20 in North Detroit Township.
